Detonator comprising at least two bodies 1 and 2 of explosive material having different rates of detonation, wherein the bodies are contiguous over an end of the faster-detonating body 2 which tapers to a point received in a complementary shaped concave end of the slower detonating body 1, the ends of the bodies being substantially symmetrical about the axis of the detonator, whereby a detonating wave front 4, 5 generated eccentrically at 3 with respect to the detonator axis to detonate said bodies in sequence will reach a main charge (not shown) as a wave rendered rotationally symmetrical about the detonator axis as a result of passage through the apex of the faster body. In another embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown), the detonator comprises two conical bodies (8) and (9) of fast-detonating explosive contiguous at their apexes, in which the space between the conical surfaces of the two charges is filled with a body (7) of slower detonating explosive. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the detonator comprises a conical body (10) of fast-detonating explosive whose apex is contiguous with the apex of a conical body (13) of slower detonating explosive, the space between the two conical surfaces being filled with a slow-detonating explosive (12) and a fast-detonating explosive (11).
