<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for stopping/restarting the operation of a valve in simple construction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This valve system for an internal combustion engine is provided for selecting a link member linked with a driving source to be connected/disconnected to/from a cam shaft to select the cam shaft to be rotated/stopped. In accordance with the rotating speed and position of the cam shaft when disconnecting the link member from the cam shaft, it previously determines a relative relationship between the rotating position of the cam shaft when restarting the rotation of the cam shaft and the rotating position of a crank shaft, and restarts the rotation of the cam shaft following the determined relation relationship.
