PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which a paper-discharge state favorable for a user can be set. SOLUTION: The printer includes a circulation transport path which includes a paper reversing mechanism, a side paper-discharge tray table in which printed printing papers not passing through the paper reversing mechanism are loaded in a face-up state, and a paper-discharge control part. The paper-discharge control part calculates a total printing time when the printing paper is outputted in a face-down state on the basis of a time RT corresponding to a time for generating image data to be used in printing of one page, a time PT1 corresponding to a printing time of one page when the printing paper is outputted in the face-up state without passing through the paper reversing mechanism, a time PT2 corresponding to a printing time of one page when the printing paper is outputted in the face-down state passing through the paper reversing mechanism, the number of pages and the number of copies of a printing object. The paper-discharge control part calculates a total printing time when the printing paper is outputted in the face-up state to the side paper-discharge tray table. The paper-discharge control part sets whether the printing paper is outputted in the face-down state or in the face-up state according to the calculated total printing times.
