APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CHARACTER INPUT IN PORTABLE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A device and a method for inputting a character of a portable terminal are provided to minimize the character data input time when inputting character data through touch input. CONSTITUTION: A touch sensor(104) senses a touch input, and a control unit(100) combines the characters selected through sensed touch input with a vowel character corresponding to touch movement from the positions of the selected characters. The control unit combines judges the direction in which the touch movement happens from the selected character in order to confirm the vowel characters corresponding to the touch movement direction and combine the vowel characters with the selected characters.
