PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to distinguish imaged scenes with accuracy so as to capture an image subjected to more preferable chroma correction. SOLUTION: A feature amount calculation section 21 separates a shot image captured in an image pickup section 12 into a plurality of areas, and calculates color ratios (R/G) and (B/G) and a luminance for each area as feature amounts. An image identification section 22 identifies the feature amounts as an area indicative of a sky image if the feature amounts are in a range of color ratios indicating the sky image and correspond to a luminance equal to a threshold or higher. The image identification section 22 sets a scene identification area on an upper portion of the shot image, and determines that the imaged scene is a scene obtained by shooting scenery, depending on the fact that the scene identification area includes an area indicative of a sky image. A correction factor setting section 25 sets a correction factor for chroma correction according to a color level of the sky when it is determined that it is a scene obtained by shooting scenery. An image processing section 30 performs image processing suitable for an image of the scenery based on this correction factor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
