FLUORESCENT PROBE COMPRISING CORE-SHELL TYPE BRANCHED POLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent probe enabling a defect of low molecule liquid crystal to be displayed fluorescently.

SOLUTION: The fluorescent probe comprises a core-shell type branched polymer having a portion compatible with the low molecule liquid crystal in the shell and a portion having a fluorescent functional group in the core, and is preferentially concentrated in the defect of the low molecule liquid crystal. The method enabling the defect to be displayed includes adding the core-shell type branched polymer to the liquid crystal, heating the dispersion to the temperature higher than the isotropic phase temperature of the liquid crystal, and cooling the dispersion to the temperature at which the liquid crystal phase is formed, so that the branched polymer dispersed in the isotropic phase is preferentially concentrated in the defect of the liquid crystal.
