PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door device equipped with a free stopper release mechanism capable of preventing an elastic locking member from being damaged by a distal end of a kicker even if the free stopper release mechanism operates while a sliding door is closed and stops and returning the free stopper release mechanism to its normal operation without fail. SOLUTION: In this sliding door device equipped with the free stopper release mechanism, the sliding door 4 can stop at an optional position by abutting the elastic locking member 21 arranged in the sliding door 4 to swing freely on a rail 11 for stopper arranged in the directions of opening and closing the sliding door 4 while the elastic locking member 21 is inclined, and the elastic locking member 21 is made to swing by travel of the kicker 10 moving while being guided by the rail 11 for stopper to form a clearance between the elastic locking member 21 and the rail 11 for stopper and release the stop state of the sliding door 4. This sliding door device is provided with a stop member 13 for preventing the kicker 10 from moving after the elastic locking member 21 is made to swing by travel of the kicker 10.
