<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent device that reduces damage on an organic electroluminescent layer in forming an electrode layer, and can display a high-quality image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent device includes a base material, a first electrode layer formed on the base material, the organic electroluminescent layer formed on the first electrode layer and having at least a light emitting layer, a semiconductor buffer layer formed on the organic electroluminescent layer and containing an inorganic compound and metal of which band gaps are 2.0 eV or more, and a second electrode layer formed on the semiconductor buffer layer.
