PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of achieving highly accurate control of transfer voltage by reducing the effect of noise and overshoot when a current value is detected and shortening a start time of printing by shortening time required for transfer voltage control. SOLUTION: In S202, the values of currents flowing in a transfer roller 110 are detected. In S203, an average value and dispersion are calculated from the plurality of the current values detected in S202. In S204, the average value corresponding to the smallest dispersion among the plurality of dispersions calculated in S202 is determined as an output current value. In S205, it is determined whether the output current value determined in S204 is a prescribed value corresponding to a voltage when a toner image is transferred to paper. In S205, if it is determined that the output current value is not the prescribed value, a high voltage control circuit 202 is controlled on the basis of the output current value in S206.
