The device has an expander tool e.g. packer (2), axially displaceable at the interior of a tubular expandable sleeve e.g. metallic patch (1). A disk-shaped control element (5) is mounted near the tool. A section of the element is calibrated such that the element freely passes at the interior of the patch, when the patch is correctly expanded, so as to allow the advancement of the tool. The element is not freely passed at the interior of the patch, when the patch is incorrectly expanded, such that the advancement of the tool is blocked.
