A sparingly water soluble calcium or magnesium salt, pref. calcium gluconate or magnesium glycerophosphoric, is incorporated into the sugar syrup at 15 degrees C, followed by warming the mixture to a temp 120 degrees C. This treatment increases the resistance of the excipients, in the form of sweets or lollipops, to ambient moisture.
