PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polytrimethylene terephthalate-based single filament polyester conjugate fiber having a small fineness which has improved fluff and slack and develops excellent surface qualities, soft feeling and stretch characteristics when used in woven or knitted fabric: and to provide a method for producing the same, which has a few end breakages and stable fiber-forming properties in terms of a process in its production. SOLUTION: The polyester conjugate fiber is a conjugate fiber in which a high-viscosity polyester component and a low-viscosity polyester component are bonded side-by-side, the high-viscosity polyester component is a polytrimethylene terephthalate, the low-viscosity polyester component is a polyethylene terephthalate and which satisfies all constituent requirements of (a) a single filament fineness of 0.5 dtex-1.5 dtex, (b) an occurrence frequency of fluffs having a length of≥3 mm of≤0.30 fluff/10, 000 m, (c) an occurrence frequency of slacks having a length of≥3 mm of≤0.20 slack/m, and (d) an Uster unevenness U% of≤2.0%.
