<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of a conventional halogen-free flame-retardant resin composition wherein the high content ratio of a magnesium hydroxide or an aluminum hydroxide generally used in the composition caused poor mechanical property, demonstrating less flame-retardant effect than expected. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The flame-retardant resin composition contains sodium polyborate and a resin which is selectable from a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin, a biodegradable resin, or the like, depending on the desired application and flame-retardancy. In addition, the halogen-free composition generates no toxic gas such as hydrogen bromide during combustion, causing less environmental burden. The sodium polyborate and the resin can be kneaded and then preferably be diluted depending on the application or the required flame-retardant grade to be fulfilled. Thus, the mechanical property is not lowered by the improvement of the flame-retardancy because the weight percentage of the flame retardant contained in the composition is reduced.
