<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader/writer having sufficient flexibility and reduced size for loading on a portable device. <P>SOLUTION: The reader/writer for reading and writing a record content in a portable recording medium includes an antenna coil 2 to be electromagnetically coupled with the portable recording medium, a control circuit 3 performing reading/writing operation of data with the portable recording medium through the antenna coil 2, and a connecting cable 4 having a host device connecting terminal 5 to be connected with a host device at one end, which are mounted on a flexible substrate 1 having flexibility. As the flexible substrate 1, a multilayer substrate having a plurality of layers is used. The antenna coil 2 is divided and disposed on the plurality of layers, and each of the divided antenna coil is wound in the same direction around the same central axis along the outer circumference of each layer and connected to each other through a through-hole. The control circuit 3 is collectively arranged in the vicinity of a position matched to the central axis of the antenna coil 2.
