PURPOSE: An interface switching device of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to quickly and adaptively change a user input condition displayed on a display unit, thereby supporting an easier input unit. CONSTITUTION: A mode state detecting unit(140) determines an arrangement state of a portable terminal when an application program is activated. A controller(160) determines a vertical mode or a horizontal mode according to an arrangement state of the portable terminal. A display unit(130) displays the input unit according to the vertical mode or the horizontal mode. When the arrangement state of the portable terminal is changed, the controller changes a set mode. The controller displays the input unit on the display unit according to the changed mode.
