<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new ceramic sintered body for a solid pressure medium which is essentially composed of magnesium oxide and has low thermal conductivity (high heat insulating property) and high melting point, and a solid pressure medium. <P>SOLUTION: The ceramic sintered body for the solid pressure medium is essentially composed of the magnesium oxide and contains 5-10 mol% yttrium element expressed in terms of yttrium oxide.
