PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the life of a hard film-coated cutting tool by reducing a residual compressive stress while maintaining high hardness to improve the adhesion strengths of hard film layers 1, 2. SOLUTION: In this hard film-coated cutting tool formed by coating a cutting tool made of a cemented carbide with hard films, the surface of the cutting tool is coated with the hard film layer 1, and the base thereof is coated with the hard film layer 2. The hard film layer 1 is (Al<SB>a</SB>Cr<SB>1</SB>-<SB>a</SB>)N<SB>x</SB>, where 0.5≤a≤0.75, 0.9≤x≤1.1. The hard film layer 2 is (Ti<SB>b</SB>Al<SB>1</SB>-b)N<SB>y</SB>, where 0.4≤b≤0.6, 0.9≤y≤1.1. When the lattice constant of the surface of the hard film layer 1 by X-ray diffraction isα1(nm), 0.411≤α1≤0.415.
