<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a needle vertical movement mechanism in a sewing machine which can easily adjust needle bar strokes. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This mechanism comprises: a first bell crank 31 revolving around a shaft 39 driven by a sewing machine motor; a first transmission link 32 coupled with the first bell crank; a second transmission link 33 disposed between the first transmission link 32 and the needle bar side; a second bell crank 54 which is coupled with the first or the second transmission link and capable of moving a connecting point 38; an actuator 52 which is coupled with the other end of the second bell crank and capable of moving to the initial position and a forward position, and moving the connecting point to a crossover point between the first bell crank 31 and the shaft 39 and a distant point from the crossover point by moving to the forward position; an adjustment motor 53 which connects the second bell crank or a first stopper 56 in contact with the actuator 52 so that it can be moved forward or backward and adjusts the forward position of the actuator, whereby the distant position of the connecting point 38 can be adjusted for the adjustment of needle bar strokes.
