<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately view a focused position and a focused state of a captured image to substantially prevent an imaging failure even when using an image display means having a small display. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a focus recognition mode, a photographer easily recognizes the focused state by notifying a degree and position of focus on the reproduced image. A camera processor 104, as a function to be performed by a CPU block 104-3 or the like in the focus recognition mode, extracts the image of an edge component from an original reproduced image, applies highlighting such as coloring to the extracted edge component as required, and superposes the edge image on the original reproduced image, so that the image with the highlighted edge part of the original image is formed and displayed on the image display device such as an LCD monitor 10 or the like.
