摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which is improved in powder characteristics with a density as high as &ge;2.0 g/cm<SP>3</SP>while maintaining excellent thermal stability by an industrial manufacturing process, and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery excellent in electric characteristics by using such a high-density positive electrode active material. <P>SOLUTION: A mixed aqueous solution of nickel salt, cobalt salt and manganese salt is co-precipitated while maintaining its temperature at 40-50&deg;C in the presence of a non-reducing complex agent in the atmosphere by adding an alkali solution so that pH of the mixed aqueous solution is maintained in a range of 11-12, and a resulting precipitate is filtered and washed with water, thereby NiCoMn composite hydroxide particles with a tap density of &ge;2.0 g/cm<SP>3</SP>are obtained. The composite hydroxide is then made into a composite oxide by oxidation roasting, and the composite oxide is mixed with a lithium compound followed by baking, thereby an LiNiCoMn composite oxide is obtained.
