A centrifugal pump impeller (11) is provided with an impeller body having an inner flow path (35) formed therein, and also with a single centrifugal impeller (37) mounted to the impeller body such that the position of an exit (34) is the front edge of the centrifugal impeller and a specific position of the outer peripheral edge of the impeller body is the rear edge of the centrifugal impeller.  The centrifugal blade (37) is designed such that the ratio between the area of an outer flow path (36) defined by the centrifugal impeller (37), the area having the angular range of 270 degrees in the circumferential direction from the rear edge of the centrifugal impeller (37), and the area of the entire impeller body surrounded by the outer peripheral edge of the impeller body is less than 0.3.
