摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus with improved initial discharge efficiency in regard to an image display apparatus using a thin film electron source. <P>SOLUTION: The image display apparatus has a base board having a plurality of electron discharge elements and a face plate having a phosphor, the electron discharge element has a lower electrode, an upper electrode, and an insulation layer formed between the lower electrode and the upper electrode, and electrons are discharged from an upper electrode side by applying voltage between the lower electrode and the upper electrode. A surface material is provided on a surface of the upper electrode, the surface material includes alkaline metal or alkaline earth metal, the lower electrode is an alloy of main constituent elements and additive elements, a proportion of the additive elements with respect to the main constituent elements is≥1 atomic%, the insulation layer is an oxide of the main constituent element, and a proportion of the additive elements included in the insulation layer with respect to the main constituent elements is≥1 atomic%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p>
