<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely avoid the temporary decline of image quality when canceling a standby state and restarting display. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a level shifter 35, an inverter 34, an operational amplifier 33, a capacitor C22 and a resistor R21 for generating an opposing electrode application voltage VCOM for a liquid crystal panel, and a counter 36 and switches SW22 and SW23 for fixing the generated opposing electrode application voltage VCOM to GND for the prescribed time after the display standby state of the liquid crystal panel is canceled.
