<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video sound reproducing device and a video sound reproducing method which can reduce power consumption according to content of reproduction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The video sound reproducing device 1 (source equipment) detects the resolution when reproducing video data from the content, detects the type of a medium in which the video data is recorded, selects output resolution applied to the video data to be output based on at least either of a detected resolution or a type of the medium, detects existence of the video data to be output, that is, whether it is only sound data, based on at least either a detected resolution or a type of the medium, and can change resolution of video output supplied to sink equipment into selected output resolution based on detected existence of vide data or output resolution applied to the selected video data.
