PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fatty tissue detecting method and a detecting device for easily detecting the fatty tissue of a subject by reflection-type ultrasonic wave measurement. SOLUTION: The fatty tissue detecting method includes: a measurement process for measuring an ultrasonic echo signal during non-irradiation, which is received from the measurement region of the subject when near-infrared light is not radiated, and an ultrasonic echo signal after light irradiation, which is received from the measurement region after the near-infrared light is radiated (a); an ultrasonic velocity change calculation process for calculating ultrasonic velocity change data before/after light irradiation in the measurement region, based on the ultrasonic echo signal during non-irradiation and the ultrasonic echo signal after light irradiation (b); and a fatty region detection process for detecting the region as the fatty region, where the ultrasonic velocity indicates a negative change after the light irradiation concerning the calculated ultrasonic velocity change data (c).
