Dyestuff compositions comprise a solution of (A) a metal-containing dyestuff of the phthalocyanine series, which is soluble in an organic solvent miscible in all proportions with water, in (B) a water-soluble non-ionic emulsifier. The emulsifier may contain up to 50% of water, and may be used in conjunction with ionic emulsifiers. The ratio of dyestuff to non-ionic emulsifier is suitably 1:2 to 1:50. The dyestuff composition may also contain an organic solvent for the dyestuff, which is miscible with water in all proportions and which is chemically inert to viscose. The composition may be made by (1) adding emulsifier to a solution of the dyestuff in a water-miscible organic solvent; (2) dissolving the dyestuff in the emulsifier without further addition of solvent; (3) adding emulsifier to a solution of the dyestuff in a water-miscible or partly water-miscible solvent, and removing the solvent by distillation. Specified classes of non-ionic emulsifiers are (a) ethers of polyhydroxy compounds; (b) fatty acid esters of ethylene glycols and polyethylene glycols; (c) N-hydroxyalkyl carboxylic acid amides, polyoxyalkylated carboxylic acid amides and sulphonamides. Many phthalocyanine dyestuffs and organic solvents are specified. In an example, solutions of copper-phthalocyanine dyestuffs in mixtures of acetone or dioxan and ethylene oxide/tert octyl phenol, or ethylene oxide/nonyl phenol, or ethylene oxide/laurylamine or coconut oil fatty acid/diethanolamine addition products are added to viscose, which is then spun into fibres (Divisions B5-B6). |
