1282270 Locks G MERTEN and W MERTEN [trading as MERIT-WERK MERTEN & CO KG] 26 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 41131/ 70 Heading E2A A lock has a housing 10, Fig. 8, having a lock cylinder which is made of synthetic plastics material and is rotatably mounted therein, the latter comprising a cylindrical main body portion 1, Fig. 2, or comprising a cylindrical main body portion having a number of individual sections 11, Fig. 5. The main body portion 1 is integrally formed with at least one spring portion 3 and with at least one tumbler portion 4. An axially extending key passage 2 is formed in the portion 1, the spring portion 3 is a leaf spring, and the tumbler portion 4 is provided with a recess 4b Fig. 3, which, when the tumbler portion 4 is assembled in the body portion 1 as shown in Fig. 4, coincides with a passage 2. The recess 4b may be bevelled, for example, at 4a, Fig. 3, to facilitate the insertion and removal of a key. The sections 11, Fig. 5, are each formed integrally with an associated spring portion 3 and with an associated tumbler portion 4, and the sections 11, Fig. 7, are each coupled at 7 to a spring portion 3 having an integral tumbler portion 4. The sections 11, having apertures 6 therein, are connected together and to end pieces 12, 13, Fig. 8, by a pin 14. The end piece 12 has a flange 15 which abuts the housing 10 and the end piece 13 has a groove formed therein which receives a circlip 16, the latter preventing withdrawal of the assembly by abutting a flange 17 of the housing 10. When the key 19 is inserted, the tumbler portions 4 are withdrawn from a groove 18 formed in the housing and allow the lock cylinder to be rotated. The tumbler portions 4 are blocked outside the grooves 18, 20 by the inner surface of the housing 10 and prevent removal of the key.
