The device has a torque-transferring shaft e.g. drive shaft, and a damping device for absorbing torsional vibrations. The damping device includes a volume-changeable damping chamber (3) that is filled with fluid medium. The damping chamber comprises a damping opening to expel the fluid medium from the damping chamber. The damping chamber is designed as a ring chamber that completely encloses the shaft, or a partial ring chamber that surrounds only a part of periphery of the shaft. The shaft comprises an inner shaft part (1.1) and an outer shaft part (1.2).
