The present invention provides a porcine alpha s1-casein gene and a porcine alpha s1-casein gene promoter, as well as a production method for an expression vector employing the promoter and a target protein employing the expression vector. The promoter of the present invention promotes mammary-specific expression of the target protein. Hence the present invention has the advantage that animals which have been genetically modified using the present promoter secrete target protein in high concentration in milk and can be beneficially employed in the production of useful proteins.
