<p>PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a transferring device thereof are provided to integrate a device for releasing tension of an intermediate transfer belt with a device for releasing contact between an image carrier and an intermediate transfer body. CONSTITUTION: An intermediate transfer belt roller generates tension in the intermediate transfer belt. A transfer roller pressurizes the intermediate transfer belt in an image carrier direction. A state converting device(50) converts a current state into at least one of a state when tension of the intermediate transfer belt is released and a state when a part of the transfer belt is spaced. The state converting device has a tension releasing member and a contact releasing member. The contact releasing member releases contact between the intermediate transfer belt and the image carrier.</p>
