A coke oven battery is fitted with a pair of gas collecting mains to which each chamber can be connected in turn. During the charging operation, every chamber is connected to the first main which is kept at a lower pressure. During the rest of the coking period, every chamber is connected to the second main which is held at a high pressure. This system can deal with the greatly increased gas flow rates during the charging operation without letting the gas escape through the oven doors. The dust laden gases can be treated separately. It eliminates the danger of air leakage through the door into the oven when a high suction is maintained after the charging operation. |
