<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To turn on a back light easily and immediately when a user desires to check display of a display device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display device 2 of a portable terminal 1 has the back light. A number of steps information acquisition means 3 acquires the number of steps of the user who possesses the portable terminal. A walk determination means 4 determines whether or not the user walks by the number of steps of the number of steps information acquisition means 3. An inclination detection means 5 detects inclination of the portable terminal. A back light turn-on means 6 turns on the back light of the display device 2 when a change of the inclination higher than a predetermined level is detected by the inclination detection means 5 after it is determined that the user does not walk by the walk determination means 4.
