Dopamine hydrochloride prepn. - by dealkylation of homo-veratrylamine hydrochloride with pyridine hydrochloride

Process is pref. at 100-200, esp. 180-200 degrees C, at atmos. pressure. Prod. (I) is pref. recovered by treating the reaction mixt. with HCl and pptg. (I) with acetone. Reagents are pref. anhydrous. (I) is partic. useful in treatment of shock and post operative syndromes. Process does not need high pressures and corrosive conc. HCl or extensive purifcn. steps c. f. prior processes.
