PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit and an image processing method, capable of effectively eliminating a shadow portion of a moving body imaged on an imaged image and correctly detecting the moving body type-by-type. SOLUTION: Between an image data acquired from a first imaging unit imaging in a far infrared wavelength band and an image data substantially simultaneously acquired from a second imaging unit imaging in either a visible light wavelength band or a near infrared wavelength band, each difference is obtained from each background difference etc., so that a candidate of the moving body area having the moving body imaged thereon is extracted.
