PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture steel for high strength steel wire superior in fatigue characteristics in manufacturing the steel for high strength steel wire by subjecting molten steel to agitation refining. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the steel for high strength steel wire by subjecting the molten steel 3 to agitation refining, the agitation refining is performed by setting [Si] in the molten steel after the refining at 0.8 to 3.0 mass%, setting the basicity of the slag S used for refining within a range of formula (1) based on the [Si] of the molten steel, and setting the agitation power quantity E in the agitation refining based on the basicity of the slag S.
