<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expandable/contractible structure, which is easy to expand or contract with a relatively small outer shape in contraction and an excellent strength in expansion. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The expandable/contractible structure 10 includes a plurality of crosslink members 13 each formed by connecting two support members 11 and 12 in an X-shape so as to be openable and closable like scissors; a plurality of connecting members 14 rotatably holding end portions of the adjacent support members 11 and 12; and a detachable constraining member 20 for arresting opening and closing operation of the crosslink member 13. The constraining member 20 arrests the opening and closing operation of the crosslink member 13 by regulating the space of at least a pair of mutually opposed connecting members 14.
