<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azimuth detecting apparatus detecting an azimuth in which a target exists within a wider angle range in addition to azimuth detection by an ordinary detection area, while suppressing an increase in the area of receiving antenna element arrangement as much as possible, and also to provide a radar apparatus using the azimuth detecting apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In a target detecting processing, temporary targets are recognized by extracting combinations of frequency peaks based on reflected waves from the same target existing within a long distance area, on the basis of a group of reception signals from an array antenna wherein receiving antenna elements are arranged at second intervals (S170). Temporary targets are recognized by extracting combinations of frequency peaks based on reflected waves from the same target existing in a wide angle area, on the basis of reception signals respectively from specific antenna elements and set antenna elements arranged at third intervals narrower than the second intervals (S180).
