<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus reading a document according to two types of reading methods with different levels of reading accuracy and highly accurately determining whether or not a predetermined pattern is included in the document. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: transport rollers 202-212 for transporting a document; a CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) 280 for reading a first side of the document; a CIS (Contact Image Sensor) reader 220 for reading a second side of the document; and a flap 240 for inverting the document and transporting the inverted document to a transporting path. A CPU 292 controls the transport rollers 202-212, the CCD 280 and the CIS reader 220 and determines whether or not a predetermined pattern is included in the document. When the CPU 292 does not decide from a reading result of the second side whether or not the second side includes the predetermined pattern, it inverts the document and causes the CCD 280 to read the second side.
