PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery capable of improving assembling productivity by accurately assembling while preventing separation of an insulating case to outside a can and improving reliability for welding a cap plate on an upper end of the can. SOLUTION: The secondary battery includes an electrode assembly 110, the can 120 for housing the electrode assembly 110, and the insulating case 140 arranged at an upper part of the electrode assembly 110 inside the can 120. A level difference section 125 wherein side face thickness is thinner than the side face thickness of the can 120 and the insulating case 140 is inserted is formed on an inner side face of an upper end of the can 120. Accurate assembling can be performed by smoothly inserting the insulating case 140 into the can 120 since the level difference section 125 is formed on an inner side face of the can 120, and a stable assembling state can be maintained.
