<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber gyroscope which suppresses a lock-in phenomenon. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This optical fiber gyroscope is equipped with: a semiconductor optical amplifier 11; and an optical fiber 12 which constitute one closed optical path 20. Two laser beams L1 and L2 advancing in reverse directions to each other through the optical path 20 are excited by the semiconductor optical amplifier 11. The total γ of reflectance of all the reflection sources in the optical path in the wavelength of the laser beams satisfies a formula (A). In the formula, a mark n<SB>0</SB>is the average refractive index of the optical path, A mark L is the length of the optical path. A mark c is the velocity of the beams. A mark γ<SB>12</SB>is an amount characterizing loss localization. A mark g denotes an effective gain of a ring laser comprising the semiconductor optical amplifier and the optical fiber.
