PURPOSE: A lighting device is provided to sterilize and purify air by generating an ultraviolet ray and ozone at a region where fluorescent substance is not coated. CONSTITUTION: In a device, a discharge gas is inserted into a glass tube(110), and a fluorescent substance(112) is repetitively coated on the glass tube. An external electrode fluorescent lamp(100) has an external electrode(130) formed on both ends the glass tube. A power supply unit supplies an alternating current to the external electrode fluorescent lamp. Housing emits light from the fluorescent substance and an ultraviolet ray from the discharge gas. An ultraviolet transmission unit(114) for emitting the ultraviolet ray is formed between the coated fluorescent substance of the glass tube.
