PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ring resonator having a structure in which the variation in the spectrum characteristic for the variations in form in manufacturing process is reduced. SOLUTION: The ring resonator 11a includes a core region 13 and a clad region 15. The core region 13 is composed of a material having a refractive index larger than that of the clad region 15. The ring resonator 11a is optically coupled to an optical waveguide 17. The core region 13 extends along a closed curve CL defined on a prescribed plane. The core region 13 has a first part 19a and a second part 19b, the first and the second parts 19a and 19b are arranged along the closed curve CL. The ring resonator 11a further includes a projection 21 which projects from the side 13a of the core region 13. The projection 21 is located at the first part 13a of the core region 13 along a prescribed plane. The projection 21 projects either the outer side or the inner side of the closed curve CL.
