The aim of the present invention is to provide a system and a method for an electronic coupon service system using a smart card capable of completely eliminating the possibility of incorrectly using an electronic coupon for a service or a product other than those accorded to an electronic coupon, and detecting a wide variety of information for services with electronic coupons on a real-time basis. To accomplish the aim of the present invention, an electronic coupon service system using a smart card including a user smart card issued to candidates of the electronic coupon service and which authenticates service users; a service provider smart card issued to providers of the electronic coupon service and which authenticates service providers; an electronic coupon server for issuing electronic coupons to authenticated user IDs in accordance with the request from users who want electronic coupons; and a portable service terminal for recognizing the user smart card and the service provider smart card at the same time or in order and transmitting transfer or removal request signals to the electronic coupon server for electronic coupons issued to user IDs if users and providers are authenticated.
