PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a top device for a vehicle performing opening operation of a top safely and appropriately without causing a damage on a sun shade. SOLUTION: In this top for the vehicle, on the vehicle compartment side of a transparent panel 5 arranged in the top 2, a sun shade 6 covering the transparent panel 5 is arranged, and the front end of the top 2 is connected and fixed in a front header 31 on the vehicle 1 side by a top lock 10 in a top closed condition. The top device is provided with a regulating mechanism 20 configured to allow the operation of a lock release member 14 arranged in the top lock 10 in the closed condition of the sun shade 6, and to regulate it in the open condition. By this constitution, when the sun shade 6 is in the open condition, the release operation of the top lock 10 itself by the lock release member 14 is regulated. This surely prevents the sun shade 6 from being an obstacle of folding of the top 2, or being damaged by the forced folding of the top 2, and assures the safety for operation of the top device.
