<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement pump motor type transmission can improve power transmission efficiency of the transmission at the maximum speed stage. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The variable displacement pump motor type transmission TM is provided with variable displacement pump motors 7, 9 for providing reaction force accompanying generation of hydraulic pressure as reaction force torque with respect to input torque transmitted from a power source 1 to differential mechanisms 6, 8 to which the power source 1 is connected; and with a plurality of driving mechanisms 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 for transmission stages arranged between intermediate shafts 4, 5 to which torque is transmitted from the differential mechanisms 6, 8 and an output member 17 and selectively achieving a state where power transmission is permitted between the intermediate shafts 4, 5 and the output member 17. The variable displacement pump motor type transmission TM is further provided with driving mechanisms 12, 15 for direct-coupled stages arranged between the power source 1 and the differential mechanisms 6, 8 and the output member 17 and selectively achieving a state where power transmission is permitted between the power source 1 and the output member 17 and a state where power transmission is not permitted between the differential mechanisms 6, 8 and the output member 17.
