<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic transfer master carrier equipped with a magnetic layer having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy with reduced coercive force and residual magnetization, and the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The magnetic transfer master carrier forms magnetic field patterns that correspond with information patterns to be recorded on vertical magnetic recording medium, when magnetic field is impressed. It is equipped with a substrate having convex portions arranged corresponding to the information patterns, and a magnetic layer having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy formed on the edge surface and side surface of the convex portions.
