The carburetor has a pyrolysis reactor (10) heated by a heating device (40). A displacing device e.g. single shaft screw, multi-shaft screw and Archimedean screw, forcibly-displaces feeding of a fuel bed from an inlet opening (11) to an outlet opening (12) through a reaction zone. A converter (30) comprises a packing bed with an inlet opening (31) that is in a position in direct proximity of the outlet opening of the reactor. The packing bed is in flow connection with a part of the pyrolysis reactor or with an inlet opening (23) of a gasification reactor (20). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a thermal carburetor.
