<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where scratches are hardly formed on the surface of an intermediate transfer belt. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A tension roller 17 is obtained by molding an elastic layer 17b on a tube stock 17a. SUS, aluminum, Ni-plated or alumite-treated aluminum is used as the material of the tube stock 17a. In order to reduce driving torque, the tube stock 17a has a hollow structure such as a three-arrow-shaped, four-arrow-shaped or five-arrow-shaped tube structure. The material having high-friction coefficient is selected as that of the elastic layer 17b. Specifically, urethane rubber, EPDM rubber, epichlorohydrin rubber or the like is used.
