<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To preferably measure a torque based on an output signal from a strain gauge attached to a strain element which causes distortion by applying the torque. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The strain element is installed in the gap with loading object through an output shaft of actuator or reduction gears. It includes a main strain area primarily displacing around a rotary shaft depending on torque, and an auxiliary strain area adjacent to the main strain area which removes any displacement component other than that of displacement around the above rotary shaft on the main strain area, being kept so that the main strain area may cause no strain except for the expected direction. One or more set of strain gauges are adhered to the main strain area to measure torque with higher precision and higher sensitivity from the output signal of each strain gauge.
