<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control apparatus for an internal combustion engine by which temperature of mixture gas of fresh air and recirculation exhaust gas supplied to a combustion chamber is accurately estimated; on the basis of the estimated temperature, fuel-injection control is appropriately performed to suppress combustion noises. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The control apparatus detects a flow rate and temperature of sucked fresh-air and also temperature of recirculation exhaust gas, and computes the flow rate of the recirculation exhaust gas. On the basis of the flow rate and temperature of the fresh air, and also the flow rate and temperature of recirculation exhaust-gas, temperature TIN of the mixture gas of fresh air and recirculation exhaust-gas is estimated (S12). In response to the temperature TIN of the mixture gas, correction coefficients KTINQP, KTINCAP, and KTINCAM are computed (S13). By the use of the correction coefficients KTNQP, KTINCAP, and KTINCAM, a pilot injection quantity QP, pilot injection timing CAP, and main injection timing CAM are controlled (S17, S18).
